Can't compete with Usain Bolt over 100m? Not able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Well have no fear, in a Sumo Suit no one can!

The Sumo Suit Athletics World Championships (AWC) took place for the first time in the Olympic year of 2008. At this point I'm aware I should state a reason behind it, but on that one I'm totally stumped - it just seemed a fun idea when suggested in the pub one day whilst inventing some fun activities for sport and adventure club 8th Day UK (www.8thdayuk.com), and we went from there!

So the premise is pretty simple: you don a sumo suit and compete in a variety of events over an afternoon, including 100m, long jump, high jump, shot put and the 'endurance' 400m! Medals are awarded for each individual event and also for the overall 'athlete' of the day.

You can see the results from last year on the 'results' page.

The date for 2010 is Saturday 14th August, and the venue is Battersea Park Athletics Track.
